Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Neil Johnson ("we", "us", "our"), the provider of the Mac Performance Monitor application ("the App") and the macperformancemonitor.com website ("the Site"), handles personal data. We are the data controller for the limited technical data described below. If you have any questions, contact us at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.
1. The short version
The App is built to be private. It sends no telemetry, no analytics, and makes no phone-home network calls. Every measurement it takes about your Mac is stored in a local database on your own machine and never leaves it. The App is free and open source, so there is no account to create, no license key, and nothing to buy. The only data we handle at all is the minimal, anonymous technical data our website and download server process to stay online and secure.
2. The App stores its data on your Mac
Mac Performance Monitor reads performance information about your Mac, such as memory, CPU, GPU, battery, network and the processes that are running. This information stays on your Mac in a local store. We do not receive it, and it is not sold, shared, or transmitted to us or any third party. Uninstalling the App or clearing its data removes it.
3. Data the website and download handle
The Site is a set of static pages, and the app download and updates are served from our content delivery network. We do not ask you for your name or email, and there are no accounts. The only data involved is:
- Technical logs. Our website host and download server process standard technical data such as IP address and request metadata to serve the files, keep the service secure, and prevent abuse. These logs are short-lived.
- Aggregate visit counts. We use Plausible Analytics to count Site visits in aggregate. It is cookieless, collects no personal data, and tracks nothing about your Mac.
4. Why we use it and our legal basis
Under the UK GDPR we rely on our legitimate interests to serve the website and downloads reliably, keep our systems secure, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate visitor numbers. We do not use this data to identify you or to build a profile.
5. Service providers we use
We use a small number of trusted providers to run the Site and the download:
- Cloudflare provides hosting, content delivery, TLS, and security for the Site and the update/download server.
- Plausible Analytics gives us anonymous, aggregate visitor counts for the Site. It is cookieless, collects no personal data, and tracks nothing about your Mac.
6. Cookies and tracking
The Site does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across the web. We use Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count visits in aggregate; it sets no cookies and collects no personal data.
7. Retention
We do not keep any personal records about you, because we do not collect any. Technical logs are kept only for a short period for security and abuse prevention, and aggregate analytics hold no personal data.
8. International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent mechanisms are relied upon to protect your data.
9. Your rights
Subject to the UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or erase any personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email neil@bzwrd.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first.
10. Children
The App and Site are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
12. Contact
For any privacy question or request, contact Neil Johnson at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.
