Privacy Policy
Last updated: 28 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Neil Johnson ("we", "us", "our"), the provider of the Mac Performance Monitor application ("the App") and the macperformancemonitor.com website ("the Site"), handles personal data. We are the data controller for the limited personal data described below. If you have any questions, contact us at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.
1. The short version
The App is built to be private. It sends no telemetry, no analytics, and makes no phone-home network calls. Every measurement it takes about your Mac is stored in a local database on your own machine and never leaves it. Your license is verified offline, so the App does not contact us to run. The only personal data we handle is what we need to sell you a license and support you, and that is processed on our Site and license server, not by the App.
2. The App stores its data on your Mac
Mac Performance Monitor reads performance information about your Mac, such as memory, CPU, GPU, battery, network and the processes that are running. This information stays on your Mac in a local store. We do not receive it, and it is not sold, shared, or transmitted to us or any third party. Uninstalling the App or clearing its data removes it.
3. Data we collect when you buy or get a license
- Email address. When you get a license key (including a free key during our launch promo) or request that a lost key is resent, we collect your email address so we can generate, deliver, and if needed re-send your license key, and provide support.
- License records. We store an order reference, your email address, and your license key so we can re-issue the key if you lose it and to support your purchase.
- Payment information. Payments are taken by Paddle (see section 5) as our Merchant of Record. We do not see or store your card or payment details.
- Technical logs. Our website host and license server process standard technical data such as IP address and request metadata to keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and apply rate limits.
4. Why we use it and our legal basis
Under the UK GDPR we rely on the following bases:
- Performance of a contract: to issue and deliver your license key and provide the App to you.
- Legitimate interests: to secure our systems, prevent fraud and abuse, and respond to support requests.
- Legal obligation: to keep records we are required to keep, for example for tax, where applicable.
5. Service providers we share data with
We use a small number of trusted providers to run the service. They process data on our behalf or, in Paddle's case, as the seller of record:
- Paddle.com handles checkout, payment, billing, and the collection and remittance of taxes such as VAT, as our Merchant of Record. Paddle processes your payment details under its own privacy policy.
- Our email provider sends your license key email on our behalf.
- Cloudflare provides hosting, content delivery, TLS, and security for the Site and the license server.
6. Cookies and tracking
The Site does not use advertising or analytics cookies and does not track you across the web. The checkout provided by Paddle may set cookies that are necessary for the secure checkout to work.
7. Retention
We keep your license records for as long as your license is valid and for a reasonable period afterwards so we can support you and meet legal and accounting requirements. Technical logs are kept only for a short period for security and abuse prevention.
8. International transfers
Some of our providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent mechanisms are relied upon to protect your data.
9. Your rights
Subject to the UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or erase your personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email neil@bzwrd.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first.
10. Children
The App and Site are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.
12. Contact
For any privacy question or request, contact Neil Johnson at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.
