Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 September 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Neil Johnson ("we", "us", "our"), the provider of the Mac Performance Monitor application ("the App") and the macperformancemonitor.com website ("the Site"), handles personal data. We are the data controller for the limited technical data described below. If you have any questions, contact us at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.

1. The short version

The App sends no usage telemetry or analytics. Performance history and alert evidence stay on your Mac. There is no account or license key. The App does use the network for updates, signed content and network tools. Those features do not upload your recorded performance history. Files you choose to export or share can contain private details.

2. The App stores its data on your Mac

The App reads memory, CPU, GPU, disk, network, battery and process data. When recording is on, it stores performance history in a local database. Alert state and delivery logs use separate local files. They can retain process names, paths, IDs and evidence even when history recording is off.

An optional privileged helper can read more system processes. Full Disk Access can let scans and other tools read more files. These permissions do not send your local history to us.

CSV files, traces, hardware reports and screenshots can contain names, paths and other private details. Exports do not remove those details for you. Review them before sharing. Removing the App alone can leave local history, settings and alert files on the Mac.

Sparkle checks for and downloads updates from GitHub. The App can also download signed checks and glossary content. Network tools contact the hosts or networks you choose. As with other web requests, those hosts receive request details such as your IP address. See the App's security and privacy guide for more detail.

3. Data the website and download handle

Cloudflare hosts the Site's static pages. GitHub serves the App's downloads and updates. The Site has no accounts or sign-up forms. Visiting it or downloading the App involves:

If you email us or open an issue, we receive the information you send. Include only what is needed to explain the problem. Use private reporting for security issues and remove unrelated personal details.

4. Why we use it and our legal basis

Under the UK GDPR we rely on our legitimate interests to serve the website and downloads reliably, keep our systems secure, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate visitor numbers. We do not use this data to identify you or to build a profile.

5. Service providers we use

The Site and downloads use these services:

6. Cookies and tracking

The Site does not use advertising cookies and does not track you across the web. We use Plausible, a privacy-friendly analytics tool, to count visits in aggregate; it sets no cookies. External sites, including GitHub, have their own cookie and privacy policies.

7. Retention

The App's history follows your local recording and retention settings. Alert files have separate limits, described in the alert policy. Hosting logs follow the providers' policies. Data you send in a support or security report becomes part of that report. Contact us about its retention or removal using the address below.

8. International transfers

Some of our providers may process data outside the United Kingdom. Where they do, appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or equivalent mechanisms are relied upon to protect your data.

9. Your rights

Subject to the UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, or erase any personal data, to restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. To exercise any of these rights, email neil@bzwrd.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to resolve any concern first.

10. Children

The App and Site are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above.

12. Contact

For any privacy question or request, contact Neil Johnson at neil@bzwrd.co.uk.
